The Grand Vision is a network of non-profit, public and private organizations, local elected officials, the business community, and citizens. There are dozens of remarkable organizations, agencies and individuals that are building the Grand Vision all across our region every day. You will implement the Grand Vision by volunteering for one of them.
By sharing your energy and ideas as a volunteer, you will be directly involved in implementing the Grand Vision.
A support structure has been created to provide information, convene community dialogue and encourage community collaboration for organizations and citizens that want to participate in implementing the Grand Vision.
What is the Grand Vision now?
The Grand Vision is a transparent process led by citizens who are willing to make things happen. It’s built upon a basic belief that the citizens of the region can make decisions today to create the region of tomorrow. It starts with the Grand Vision, the big picture – the citizen’s guide for coordinating transportation systems with land-use patterns, housing choices, economic growth and environmental protection over the next 50 years.
The Grand Vision process differs greatly from how we have engaged in planning in the past. With nearly 15,000 participants in six counties, the Grand Vision is one of the nation’s largest community input conversations to date. We must keep that conversation going, because we are all responsible for the design and planning of this region. And because, as we have shown in an enthusiastic response to create a vision, when we think and act together, we can do great things to build our future together. We are all designers and planners. The future of community is ours to create – through citizen action.
So it’s all about YOU.
YOU implement the Grand Vision by volunteering for any of the amazing organizations that are building the Grand Vision all across our region every day. That commitment includes hands-on projects like; water quality sampling, scouting for invasive species plants, and being active with your local planning commission. It also includes; grant writing, resource development, photography, communications and outreach. The need has no limits.
And each month the Grand Vision will highlight a volunteer action from somewhere in the region that you can participate in. It will be a great chance to make a meaningful difference and meet other people who are committed to working for a better future for our region. Today’s feature is the Grand Traverse Conservation District (GTCD) and the amazing work they are doing at the Nature Center.
The Grand Vision requires a new level of citizen engagement, to build a future that is distinct from the past.
